For some, a high end wood blind look is exactly the interior design they desire. While it is true, the vast majority of customers treat the wood and faux wood blind as a basic commodity - driving for the best price possible - it is also true that a customer exists that desires a beautiful and unique look that can only be provided by a rich stained wood.
These top of the line wood blinds come with premium stain finishes and are often distressed, bringing a real rustic yet modern look to any space. For these projects, we are graced with the imperfect natural look of a wood product which creates a one of a kind design. It is the knots and minor variations that present a look that, while similar, can not be exactly duplicated in another window, or for another customer. It is these subtle differences that make the design - and it is completely random. So, if you are one of those who like to play with the uniquely beautiful aspects of wood for your window coverings, then consider a high end premium wood blind. We would love to work with you on your wood or faux wood blind project. Contact us today for a complimentary consultation and thanks for your interest in Latreia Blinds and Shutters!

One of Facebook groups for window coverings, which we follow, featured some pictures from our roller shade manufacturer of a job completed in a loft in Boise, Idaho. We are located in Arizona, but we really appreciate a well designed job and as such offer a "shout-out" to our roller shade brothers in Idaho.
For this particular job, they used a designer solar roller fabric with a tight weave. They motorized the roller over the french doors with a coupled system. This means that three blinds running off of one motor. This coupled design was chosen to avoid having to railroad the fabric and as such having a seam in the look. In case you didn't know, railroading is turning the fabric sideways from the way it is manufactured to accommodate large openings, but railroading fabric can result in a visible seam and/or some curling on the fabric edges. So, our friends in Boise, in an efforts to keep that clean modern look with no visual disruption chose the coupled option which in our opinion was well considered as the best design option. For the other windows in the loft, they utilized a nickel colored chain pull to best match the fabric. Bottom line, a well appointed Boise loft has a modern and cool roller shade decor thanks to window covering professionals who know what works. Of course, we would love to help you with your loft's roller shade project. Contact us today for a complimentary consultation, and thanks for your interest in Latreia Blinds and Shutters! A couple of weeks ago, we began a series which shares about the fine print of your shutter warranty. As we mentioned, most contention between customers and shutter manufacturers can be found in the mismatch of warranty expectations. And, let's be honest, most people do not pay very close attention to the fine print found in their shutter warranty. They only know the general coverage - which is something like a lifetime warranty with a four year warranty on the color fastness.
All shutter warranties will have their own fine print, so be sure to check with your retailer for the fine print associated with your shutter brand. As an example, one of the lines we carry indicates: Your shutter's warranty may not include any conditions or damages resulting from accidents, alterations, misuse, extraordinary use, misapplication, improper handling, improper installation, improper repairs, operation or cleaning, loss of color intensity, exposure to salt air, damage from insects, or the yellowing and cracking of plastic parts with the passing time. Also, your shutter's warranty may not cover variation in color, grain, or texture in natural wood products nor excessive warping of wood slats in high humidity areas or moisture prone applications. Additionally, your shutter's limited warranty may not cover damage to following hardware accessories / parts or minor issues generally associated with normal shutter wear and tear after a period of 12 months from the date of original installation:
Generally, you must notify your shutter manufacturer, if your order contains any discrepancies, non-conforming products, or any damage, immediately upon receipt of your shipment and before the shutters are installed or any alterations are attempted. There are many other items in the fine print, which will be discussed in a subsequent blog post. This is really just an introduction to how a shutter warranty is applied, and we hope it helps you better understand what you should expect should you encounter any issues with your plantation shutters. A mistake we see over and over again, is folks not paying attention to the remodel budget - till the end of the project - when it is time to pick the window coverings. A good design will incorporate the very important window covering look of the windows into the overall concept.
There is nothing sadder to a window covering professional, then looking at a $50,000 kitchen and dining room remodel - only to see knock off faux wood blinds in the windows. It cheapens the overall look, and happens more than you might imagine. People run out of project money by the point its time to cover the windows, and then adding to the situation - the homeowners are often so frazzled by the re-model's upheaval they say - "what is cheapest." End result, entire design effect is ruined. Your windows are the source of light and view, and often are a big part of the wall area - and cheap looks cheap - so the atmosphere you had hoped to create is lost. Often people can not even put their finger on why it isn't working, but more often than not it is the choice of window coverings. Flip through a design magazine and notice the windows - they play a major role in the space. Okay - so rant complete. Now on to the solution:

Well, a cut-out is a custom notch in your wood or faux wood blind that allows the blind to fit around some obstruction in a window. We generally encounter the need for a cut-out in windows that have some sort of wrap-around tile, in some section of the inside portion of the window frame.
If you were to choose a non-custom wood or faux wood blind, then you would either have to make the entire blind narrow enough to fit inside the tile wrap - or else - stop the blind on the top of the tile. If you can visualize this - you would correctly be imaging rather large - and unsightly gaps - on either the sides or bottom of your window. However, there is an option. With custom made wood or faux wood blinds, you can have them made with a pre-positioned notch that allows the blind to operate around the obstruction while keeping a uniform and beautiful look. We would love to help you with you wood or faux wood blind project. We have done lots of windows with tile cut-outs. Contact us today for a complimentary consultation in your home or office. This window faces the street and as a result of this application the curb appeal of this house has skyrocketed. Also, this office was uncomfortable with morning sun because the arch portion of the window was uncovered and the lower portion had an old woven wood shade. As such, the old blinds provided poor heat and cold control.
Needless to say, a bright white fully louvered shutter with 3 1/2" louvers has transformed this room and home. Of course, we would love to help you with your shutter project. Quite often, customers will purchase faux or wood blinds for throughout their entire home. However, there is always a pause when it comes to how to handle the doors. For a sliding door, a different type of window covering is generally advisable. Honestly, people do try and sometimes place a wood blind over a sliding glass door, but it is such a poor application, fraught with difficulty, that we just will not sell the application.
However, french doors are quite another matter. A faux or wood blind is quite appropriate for use on a french door and accomplishes the goal of price control and continuity of look. So what is there to know about your french door wood blind? Well, if you have a lever type handle, the blind will close down behind the handle but will create a need to work the blind around the handle when open. Also, it may be necessary to help the slats around the handle when tilting the blind and/or raising and lower the blind. Finally, it is recommended that the bottom portion of the blind be held down with special hardware - called hold-down brackets. These brackets hold the bottom rail in place as the door is opened and closed. While the center of the blind may slightly sway and/or knock against the window trim - the secured bottom will prevent the wood or faux wood blind from swinging wildly. Of course, if you want to raise the blind, you will first have to unclip the bottom rail from the hold-down brackets. We would love to help you with you wood or faux wood blind project.
