Architects are designing modern spaces with plenty of bright open windows. This is a beautiful design concept, but in the practical sense, can provide glare and uncomfortable heat.
This is where solar shades come in handy! They control glare, heat, and UV rays. When choosing a fabric color, remember that lighter colors tend to block heat better, whereas darker colors block out the glare better. High performance solar fabrics block both heat and glare and are offered in every color, and help to keep the overall temperature of the room cooler. Now let's get a little bit technical. Solar shades are very precisely engineered and woven to produce a "fabric openness." This openness factor will determine how much light is allowed through the shade, and also how much heat is reflected away from the room. Certain fabrics we offer are from 1% to 14% open to determine how much light and heat are allowed. In combination with the fabric color that is chosen, these percentages will determine how well the final product controls heat and glare and also determines UV performance. Solar shades can provide a level of daytime privacy, not unlike sheer draperies do, but are in fact, much more energy efficient. If daytime privacy is required, you may want to choose a 1% or 3% open fabric.
